Great article on a sore topic. I’ve been on cropped slopes of 18% where the topsoil is long gone, where anhydrous is the only reason anything grows, and where micro channels from the last rain show that the erosion is not historical. Anyone with eyes can see how devastated Iowa’s soil is from a road, anywhere slopes are over 5%. No wonder there is so much sediment and pollution in the streams.

I don't call them farmers anymore. I call them shit spreaders. The CAFOs need to do something with all that hog shit, chicken shit. You get the picture. Even if you don't live near a CAFO, you can still enjoy them since someone is spreading "free" shit everywhere to grow corn and bean row crops to fuel cars. Don't pretend to move to the country for clean air or the smell of wild plums. Just hold your breath. I'm sure we'll all be just fine.
