Fun read! Spent teen years fishing out of DeSoto with my uncle and taught for a year in Lansing so all the sites are very familiar. Brought back some fun memories.

Wife's family's from Tomah/LaCrosse and we visit annually often during Octoberfest dating back go Heileman's "Old Style Lager" days and open-carrying on the street. Can testify to the veracity of the dialect and encourage more fiction writing regardless of the effect on your reputation--it's about our enjoyment, not you.

That was a fun read. I have heard the dialect and expressions many times. I grew up in western Illinois...the part where the state looks pregnant. Locals for years have referred to that part of the state as Forgottonia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forgottonia

A teacher friend of mine spent many years in sconsin public schools. He lives in Iowa City now and makes a regular run to boost his Spotted Cow and Moon Man stashes.

As a central Iowan who visits that area whenever I can, I loved it! I give a presentation each year (during Eagle Days) in Prairie du Chien, and have over-nighted at the nearby Grand View Motel as well. PS..watch your speed when driving through Ferryville! I hear they are generous in handing out speeding tickets! Ty Smedes

Ferryville is longest 150 population town in the U.S. I think. 25 mph the whole way.
