I wish it were all a parody. I'm like you: "My eyes rolled a revolution or two before an epiphany came upon me like the stench of hogshit riding a cold north wind on a November night."
Have you looked into making nitrogen fertilizer from corn or soybeans? Maybe some formula like “for every bushel produced, we turn 1.2 bushels into fertilizer, with any waste material used as hog feed”. You could call it Sustainable High Intensity Transition fertilizer or something like that!!
All it needs is a big government subsidy to take off.
Keep on writing these well researched data about a farming community and politicians that have a problem of hearing this so critical message. Most seem to be deaf about their own families health of rural Iowa. Please stay the course! Now its wake-up call time to bring to focus the Mexican trade dilemma which is demonstrating how naive our agricultural understanding of this issue really is. Mexico will just buy NONGMO corn somewhere else. We may have won the battle BUT are loosing the war. In addition we are in a down spiral in regard to OUR health and critical soil health issues. Glad to be able to support your writing!
Don't know if GOATF truly describes Iowa these days. Take tax dollars to subsidize religious schools that teach the idiocy that the universe is 6000 years old and cavemen rode dinosaurs? Subsidize corn miners and CAFO's(Certainly A Foul Odor) and pretend Iowa' waters are improving? I wonder if I decide not to replace my septic field next time and just run the effluent out on the ground or in the nearest creek if I will get away with it?
Spot on again Chris! I was just sharing this concept with a few others, by renaming the Gulf, Trump confirms that this is AMERICA'S DEAD ZONE.

people have considered extracting oil from algae blooming in the Gulf. that's how dumb this gets.

To the Gulf and to the Oval, America ain't sending its best.
